Sotuma in the Gambia
The projects in the villages of Fantumbung and Songkunda have a special radiance at the entire district, and have set an example for all of the surrounding villages. This is demonstrated by the many requests for assistance.
The residents have a great need of a vegetable garden. The people in this remote area eat almost no fruit and many children have a thick belly, worn by too much finite food. Every human being has the right of access to clean water and healthy food, and therefore a better health.
The village habitants are mainly farmers that predominantly grow peanuts and couscous. This can only be done during the rain season that lasts from July to mid-October. The farmers harvest peanuts in November and it is the intention that the harvest is used for their own consumption and for sale. However there is not even enough for own consumption and as a result, the farmers are in major financial problems because they can not sell anything. And so no other food to buy.
